Q1. What is AVSU?
A1. AVSU (Audio Visual Services Unit)
is a university-wide service unit primarily responsible for providing
technical support services for AV equipment used for classroom teaching.
Q2. What services
does AVSU provide?
A2. The services provided by AVSU include:

classroom AV emergency call service?
A3. Classroom on-call service hours on
regular teaching days are:
Monday - Friday : 8.15a.m. to 8.15p.m.
Saturday : 8:15a.m. to 12:45p.m, 1:45p.m. to 5:00p.m

A7. You can borrow three kinds of
equipment. They are:
- Audio Equipment
- Video Equipment
- Presentation / Projection Equipment

Q7. How can I borrow AV equipment?
A8. You may:
- Reserve the equipment by calling
2609-6062 and then
- Return the Equipment Booking Form to AVSU by internal
mail or fax at 2603-5301.
( The Equipment Booking Form can be obtained from AVSU Loan Counter or
download from http://www.avsu.cuhk.edu.hk/dl/index.html ), or
- Using Online Booking System ( To use the system, you must be a staff and have
registered to the system. )
Access to AV equipment
Q1. How can I get password to access AV equipment in classroom?
A1 .The password is controlled by various classroom
management offices. You can contact related classroom management office to get the password before your lesson. For the phone numbers of management offices, please refer to :

AV Control System
Q1. What is AV
Control System and how to use it?
A1. AV Control System is designed to make
the operation of AV equipment more user-friendly. There are 2 types of
AV control system. The followings are their operation manual:
1) For control system with large
touch panel, please refer to

Microphone
Q1. Where can I
get a wired microphone in classroom?
A1. Wired microphone is locked inside the AV
cabinet. You need a password to unlock the AV
cabinet.
Q2. What can I do if the wired microphone in classroom does not work?
A2. Please check the followings:
- make sure
that the switch of microphone is turned on, and
- make sure
that the AV Control System is switched on, and
- make sure
that the microphone cable is connected to the AV microphone socket,
and
- make sure
that the level bar of mic volume in control system is not "mute" or
minimized.
Q3 : Where can I get a wireless microphone in classroom?
A3. Wireless microphone is locked inside the
AV cabinet. You need a password to unlock the AV
cabinet.
Q4 : What can I do if the wireless microphone in classroom does not work?
A4. Please check the followings:
- make sure
that the microphone is switched on, and
- make sure
that the AV Control System is switched on, and
- make sure
that the level bar of mic volume in control system is not "mute" or
minimized, and
- replace the
battery if necessary.
Built-in PC
Q1. What kinds of software
are installed in built-in PC?
A1. Please refer

Q2: Can I install software or save files into built-in PC in classroom?
A2. No, there is a
recovery system installed in the classroom built-in PC. When the
computer boots up, a preset file system will be reloaded. All newly
installed software or files will be erased.
Q3. Can I access to Internet by using built-in PC in classroom?
A3. Yes, all built-in PCs in our classrooms are connected to ClassNet. You
can login to Internet by using your own login ID and password. Login
information is provided by ITSC.
Q4. Where is the wireless mouse in classroom?
A4. The wireless
mouse is kept inside the AV cabinet. You can open the AV cabinet by
using your password.
Q5. What should I do if the wireless mouse does not work?
A5. Wireless mouse
is battery-operated. If the wireless mouse does not work, please contact AVSU ( Tel: 2609 6060 ) for assistance.
Q6. How to use the writing panel in classroom?
A6. Please refer

Q7: What should I do if digital pen does not
work?
A7: Digital pen is
battery-operated. If the digital pen does not work, please contact AVSU ( Tel: 2609 6060 ) for assistance.
Notebook computer
Q1. How to use
notebook computer in classroom?
A1. Please try the
following procedure:
- Press "Power
On" button to switch on AV Control System
- Press
"Notebook" button to start notebook mode.
- Connect VGA
cable to your notebook
- Switch on
your notebook
- Hold [Fn] key
and press [CRT/LCD] key once or twice to select dual display mode
The [CRT/LCD] key
depends on different notebooks. The followings are for your reference

If there is no
projection image from the notebook computer, you can:
- check
connection between notebook and VGA cable, or
- switch your
notebook to dual projection mode by holding the "function key" (Fn)
or
- restart your
notebook
Q2. How can I output the audio of my notebook computer to the amplifier
system.
A2: You can
connect audio cable to your notebook. The AV cable is either hanged outside the AV cabinet
or kept inside the box on the desktop of lectern.
Q3. Can I make Internet connection by using my notebook computer?
A3. You can setup the Classnet connection
to your notebook computer. To setup Classnet connection, please refer to
the instruction provided from ITSC -

VCR
Q1. What can I do
if there is no video and audio when VCR tape is being played?
A1. VCR tape may reach the end. You can
try to rewind or forward the VCR tape and play it again. If you are sure
that the VCR tape is rewound to a correct position. You may switch
off and then switch on the AV control system again.
Q2. What can I do if the VCR player cannot be controlled by using touch
panel?
A2. You may:
- check the power of the VCR player to
make sure that it is switched on.
- try to control the VCR player by
pressing the buttons on the VCR player and report the problem to
AVSU (Tel: 2609 6060)
Q3. How to select the correct language if my VCR tape has dual languages?
A3. You can press the “Audio?button on
the touch panel to select audio channel.
Q4. What can I do if the projected image flickers?
A4. You may switch off and then switch
on the AV control system again.
DVD
/ VCD / CD Player
Q1. What can I do
if the DVD player cannot be controlled by touch panel?
A1. You may:
- check the
power status of DVD player and make sure that it is switched on.
- try to
control the DVD player by pressing the buttons on the DVD player or
remote control and report to AVSU (Tel: 2609 6060)
Q2. What can I do if the DVD player stops immediately when I try to play
my DVD?
A2. The DVD player
may not support the region code of your DVD disc. Please contact AVSU
(Tel: 2609 6060)
Q3. How to select chapter for my DVD?
A3. You can press
“DVD Advanced Control?button and then press the “menu?button on the
touch panel to select different chapters.
Q4. How to select language for my DVD?
A4. You can press
“DVD Advanced Control?button and then press the “language?button on
the touch panel to select different languages.
Q5. How to select subtitle for my DVD?
A5. You can press
“DVD Advanced Control?button and then press the “subtitle?button on
the touch panel to select different subtitle.
Q6. Does the disc player support time search function?
A6. All disc
players support time search function for DVD. You can use the remote
control to control the time search function. But, not all the disc
players support time search function for VCD.
Cassette
Q1. What can I do
if there is no audio when I am playing the cassette tape.
A1.
Check that the cassette tape is playback in correct side (Side A or Side B).
Q2. Can I record my voice by using cassette deck?
A2.
Yes, you can record your voice through the microphone by
using cassette player. They followings are the steps:
1.
power on AV Control System, press “cassette?button
2.
insert your cassette tape into the cassette deck at right
hand side
3. press “Rec?button to record

Q1. How can I
connect my AV device (eg. DV camera, MD player ...) to the system?
A1. You can connect your AV device (eg.
DV camera, MD Player) by using the provided AV cable. The AV cable is either hanged outside
the AV cabinet or kept inside the box on desktop of lectern.
OHP
Q1. What can I do
if there is no light when the OHP is switched on?
A1. Please check:
- make sure the
switch of power socket on wall is "ON", or
- switch the OHP
to "Spare Lamp" position.
Q2. What can I do if the projected image is not clear?
A. You can:
- adjust the
foucs of OHP.
- adjust the
distance between OHP and screen.
Visual Presenter
Q1. What can I do if projector cannot project the image from visual
presenter?
A1 Please check:
1.
Make sure that
the AV Control System is switched on and visual presenter button has
been pressed.
2. Check the power
of the visual presenter.
3. Switch on the
visual presenter by pressing the power button on the visual presenter.
